The City of Westby was once considered a Village incorporated in 1896 but later became a City in 1920. Named after Ole T. Westby, we are a multigenerational Norwegian community that takes pride in the committees that keep traditions alive.
Westby Utilities is a locally owned and operated electric and water utility. We strive to provide low-cost, reliable service with a friendly, personal touch. Westby Utilities was founded in 1915 by the citizens of Westby. The community’s early founders voted to establish their own city-owned utility to provide light to its downtown area and to encourage economic development. Today, we still offer our residents some of the lowest electric rates in south-western Wisconsin - rates significantly lower than those in territories that are served by investor-owned utilities. We also provide our customers with clean, high-quality water that meets or exceeds all state and federal standards. And, as part of the community, Westby Utilities gives citizens a voice in its decisions and programs.
